About WYDAC

Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) has dedicated itself to developing the strength, health, confidence and leadership of Warlpiri youth since 1993. The program aims to promote positive and meaningful future pathways for all young Warlpiri people.

The notable and sustainable success of the program has been firmly based on the strength of Warlpiri youth, families and their communities, as well as the ongoing commitment of staff. The program was created by and for Warlpiri people and is governed by a Warlpiri Committee.

The WYDAC head office is located in Yuendumu Community, however WYDAC is comprised of a variety of programs operating at five different Warlpiri sites – Yuendumu, Willowra, Nyirrpi, Lajamanu and Mt Theo Outstation. WYDAC also have an office located in Alice Springs. There are over 70 staff across the entire organisation with more than half of these being Warlpiri people.

A Career Opportunity Like No Other

'The essence of the Mt Theo program was and continues to be the provision of cultural rehabilitation and strengthening of young people through the care of Warlpiri mentors and elders. This rehabilitation takes place at the remote Mt Theo outstation, 160km north-west of Yuendumu, and clients are cared for by Warlpiri Elders'

The Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) now has a unique opportunity for an Outstation Case Worker to join their team. Based in Yuendumu, NT, this is a full-time position working 5 days per week, incorporating some after hours and weekends as required.

The Mt Theo program aims to develop strong young community leaders, by providing youth diversionary activities, education and counselling for young people at risk. 

Reporting to the Outstation Coordinator, your primary role will be to provide support to the Mt Theo Elders and Outstation carers, as well as providing case management support to the young people accessing the program.

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Working in close collaboration with the Outstation Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator and Mt Theo Elders with daily tasks;
  • Assisting the Outstation Carers to engage young people in daily activities;
  • Providing supervision, and ensuring a safe, healthy and positive environment is provided for clients residing at the Outstation;
  • Supporting young people in making positive choices, to maximise their chances when reintegrating back into the community;
  • Assisting with the facilitation of referrals, including referrals from communities outside Yuendumu; and
  • Ensuring compliance of Outstation Policies and Procedures.

This position isn't for just anyone. It is in a remote location and can be challenging and as such requires a resourceful, flexible, driven, hard-working person to succeed. However - for the right person this is a rewarding, life-changing role that will allow you to become a part of a very special community. 

WYDAC is looking for candidates with experience working with cross-cultural persons, young people and remote community issues.

More specifically, you will need to have knowledge and experience working with young people who have experienced trauma, have Mental Health and/or VSA/AOD issues, who have experienced family and/or domestic violence and have low literacy and numeracy skills. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will provide you with the platform to talk openly with young people experiencing these issues.

The role would best suit someone who is passionate about youth work and remote-area assistance and has the demonstrated ability to work in a team with resourcefulness, self-motivation and independent decision-making capabilities.

Please note: To be considered you must have a current ‘Class C’ Open Driver’s License, and be willing to undergo a criminal history check and Working with Children clearance (Ochre Card) prior to commencement.    

About the Benefits
