About Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC)

Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) has dedicated itself to developing the strength, health, confidence and leadership of Warlpiri youth since 1993. The program aims to promote positive and meaningful future pathways for all young Warlpiri people.

The notable, and sustainable, success of the program has been firmly based on the strength of Warlpiri youth, families and their communities, as well as the ongoing commitment of staff. The program was created by, and for, Warlpiri people, and is governed by a Warlpiri Committee.

The WYDAC head office is located in Yuendumu Community, however WYDAC is comprised of a variety of programs operating at five different Warlpiri sites – Yuendumu, Willowra, Nyirrpi, Lajamanu and Mt Theo Outstation. WYDAC also have an office located in Alice Springs. There are over 70 staff across the entire organisation with more than half of these being Warlpiri people.

About the Opportunity 

The Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation (WYDAC) are seeking an experienced Social Worker, Psychologist, Counsellor or similar, to join their team as an Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) Coordinator. This is a full-time role, based in Yuendumu, NT.

Reporting directly to the General Manager - Youth and Family Services and WYDAC management, your primary responsibility will be to provide clinical and operational support to the IFSS teams; supporting the development and implementation of the IFSS program and serving as part of the IFSS and broader Youth and Family services team. 

Your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing leadership and direction to the IFSS team, in line with WYDAC values and policies and procedures;
  • Assessing referrals, liaising with referring bodies and allocating families to Family Support Workers;
  • Providing ongoing support, development and mentoring for Warlpiri IFSS Mentors;
  • Assisting with the orientation of new staff;
  • Supporting the development of psycho-social training and education in community for vulnerable families or parents and the broader community;
  • Ensuring that the IFSS service is delivered in a culturally appropriate and relevant way;
  • Supporting the Warlpiri reference group, to inform practice direction and to inform responses to issues arising for families and young people;
  • Supporting recruitment campaigns, including being available for interviews across WYDAC team; 
  • Providing direct case management support to staff and IFSS families, as required; and
  • Providing high quality internal and external reports

About You

The successful candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or any other relevant discipline, and have experience working in a community development context.  

Due to the nature of the role, suitable candidates need to have demonstrated experience in the coordination of a multidisciplinary team, coupled with a background in community-based case management, including high level administrative skills.

It's imperative that you have excellent communication and negotiation skills in a cross-cultural setting, where English is a second language. You will be able to effectively and sensitively communicate with the Warlpiri people and respond with respect to Aboriginal Leadership and management committee. 

Candidates with experience working within cross-cultural environments, and an awareness of capacity building principles delivered in a remote Indigenous context, will be highly regarded. 

Please note: You will need to have, or be willing to obtain, a current 'C' class Open Driver's License, Criminal History Check and Working with Children clearance (Ochre Card) prior to commencement.
